Laser Hair Removal with the Lumenis Duet Removal System
Laser hair removal is a safe and effective solution for clients with unwanted hair on the face, chest, abdomen, arms, legs or back. This procedure is non-surgical, non-invasive and virtually pain-free; it’s also one of the most convenient cosmetic options available today.
There are many well-known professional hair removal methods – tweezing, waxing, shaving, electrolysis – but each of these comes with a suite of drawbacks. More to the point, each only produces temporary results.
Laser hair removal is different – it uses light energy to permanently disable hair follicles. This makes it faster, more efficient, and less painful than other hair removal options. And because it’s so gentle, it’s suitable for many areas on the body. Unlike electrolysis, laser removal is able to treat multiple follicles at once, making it very effective and convenient for larger areas of the body as well as facial hair and bikini lines. The process causes minimal discomfort – and best of all, there is no downtime afterward.
* This procedure is priced per area — fees will be quoted upon request.
ABOUT OUR PROCESS
Island Dermatology is proud to announce that we are among a select group to be using the new Lumenis® Duet Hair Laser. The incredible technology behind the Lumenis Duet, with its large applicator head and vacuum-assisted suction power, makes it faster and more efficient than any other hair laser. Gone are the hours-long laser treatments: the Lumenis Duet can do large areas quickly and with virtually no pain. A man’s back or woman’s legs takes just 15 minutes!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The laser light selectively targets hair follicles only – surrounding tissues are untouched and unharmed. Unlike electrolysis, where needles are used to apply an electrical current to one hair follicle at a time, laser hair removal is used to treat whole areas at a time with minimal to no pain.
Laser removal is an ongoing process; after a series of treatments you will notice a significant reduction in hair growth and possibly be hair-free in the treated areas. The number of treatment sessions required for complete and permanent removal will vary by individual and skin and hair type, but 3 – 5 treatments is common.
WHY ARE MULTIPLE TREATMENTS NEEDED?
Hair grows in cycles – at any given time, anywhere from half to 80% of your hair follicles are in the anagen or active growth phase. These active-growth follicles will be disabled by the laser during your first treatment. The remaining dormant hairs will continue to grow – these can be treated at a later date. You’ll notice any remaining hairs becoming finer, thinner and lighter after each treatment.
WILL IT WORK FOR ME?
Laser hair removal works best when there is a marked contrast between skin pigment and hair color – therefore, it works best on individuals with light skin and dark hair. Blonde or gray/white hair is less responsive to the treatment due to insufficient pigment in the hair follicles. Similarly, individuals with darker skin may not respond well due to the lack of pigment discrepancy between skin and hair colors.
During your initial evaluation, our physicians will help you determine whether laser treatment will be an effective solution for your hair and skin type.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Our office prides itself on our smooth, worry-free laser removal procedures. When you first come in you’ll receive a simple but thorough evaluation from one of our physicians. During your evaluation we’ll perform a “test spot” hair removal procedure to make sure you don’t experience any adverse effects.
Clients may occasionally experience slight redness or swelling around the hairs following the procedure. We recommend that clients continue to use sunscreen on any treated areas that may receive sun exposure.
